Hardwood Flooring Installation In Plano, Frisco, Allen & McKinney: What You Need To Know

Recently Finished Project In McKinney

Choosing the right hardwood flooring for your home is a big decision, but ensuring it’s installed correctly is even more crucial.

Here's a mini-guide to help you get new hardwood flooring.

For this post, we'll focus strictly on non-pricing elements. You can check out our comprehensive pricing guide to hardwood flooring in Dallas and the important things to look out for here.

We strongly recommend using that pricing guide as your checklist when getting quotes. There are many things that companies don't include, overlook, or even sneak in via hidden fees that can trap you later.

Okay, first things first - you're fortunate if you live on this side of town, as the conditions are mostly ideal for hardwood flooring. Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, and surrounding areas support both solid and engineered wood floors.

Since we work extensively in these areas, we're very familiar with the climate, processes, and even building regulations that facilitate a smooth installation process.

Why Hardwood Flooring Is Perfect For North Texas Homes

Homes in Collin County experience seasonal humidity shifts, meaning proper hardwood installation is essential to prevent warping, gapping, or buckling. Whether you’re in a luxury home in Plano’s Willow Bend, a modern space in Frisco’s Newman Village, or a classic home in Historic Downtown McKinney, we ensure your hardwood flooring is installed to last.

The Right Way To Acclimate Hardwood Flooring In Texas

acclimating solid hardwood floor inside plano homeOne of the most overlooked but critical steps in hardwood flooring installation is acclimation. Without this, your floor could expand or contract unpredictably, leading to costly repairs.

➡️ How We Acclimate Hardwood Flooring Before Installation:

Engineered Hardwood: Depending on manufacturer recommendations, it needs anywhere between 2-4 days to adjust to your home’s temperature and humidity. Because engineered hardwood is more stable, it handles seasonal changes better, but it still requires proper acclimation.

Solid Hardwood: Usually requires between 5-7 days (sometimes longer) to adjust to your conditions. A solid bamboo product - we won't touch it unless it's acclimated for at least two weeks. Since solid hardwood is more susceptible to expansion and contraction, we store it in your home before installation to match normal living conditions.

We Monitor Humidity & Temperature: We use professional-grade moisture meters to ensure both the hardwood and your subfloor are at the correct levels before installation. If you don't have all your doors and windows installed (for a new construction), HVAC operational for a minimum amount of time, or are still in the middle of painting, guess what? You're going to change your home's relative humidity levels drastically.

Climate Considerations: Texas homes often use engineered hardwood over concrete slabs, while solid hardwood is also used when site conditions are suitable. They also are quite common in homes with pier-and-beam foundations.

Planning

We're big on pre-construction meetings as they provide clarity and direction for the project's timeline. The larger the project, the more planning is required. It's usually a straightforward and timely process for a couple of rooms or smaller areas, especially for engineered hardwood floors. However, if you're planning a more extensive remodel, be sure to get with your contractor and factor in things like:

🔹 If you will need to be out of the home

🔹 If anyone has allergies

🔹 Furniture move and reset

🔹 If pets need to be away

🔹 Other trades working in the home

🔹 Estimated time of completion

Job Site Conditions & Respect Local Regulations

Protecting Client Property

Dust and debris from hardwood flooring installation can become problematic if not managed properly—especially in the Plano, Frisco, Allen, and McKinney areas where strict HOA and city regulations exist.

When hiring for your project, ensure they are, at the bare minimum:

👉🏼 Use plastic barriers & protective coverings to protect your property and minimize dust spread. Like here for a recent job.

👉🏼 Daily cleanup - Waste materials are removed from the job site (inside and out) to prevent accumulation and avoid unwanted attention from local councils or HOA inspectors.

👉🏼  Noise and work hour compliance: Since many communities in Collin County have strict noise regulations, we schedule work within permitted hours to avoid disruptions.

Which Hardwood Flooring Option Is Best for Your Home?

Choosing between solid and engineered hardwood depends on several factors:

⚡️ Floor Height: Solid hardwood will raise your floor height by approximately 1 1/2" from the concrete slab.

⚡️ Baseboard Height: As a result of a solid floor being higher, your baseboards will also be raised throughout.

⚡️ Stability: Engineered hardwood is cross plied giving it greater stability (it isn't as sensitive to moisture).

⚡️ Aesthetic Appeal: Wide-plank European oak and hand-scraped finishes are popular choices in homes across Plano and Frisco.

⚡️ Budget Considerations: Engineered hardwood is often more cost-effective while offering the same high-end look.
